have their voices heard within Boulder County government. The County, in
turn, benefits from this citizen input. Boards and commissioners are listed
below.
Thank you for your interest in boards and
commissions. The deadline to submit applications for mid-year recruitment was July 31, 2008.
Annual recruitment will begin on Jan. 1, 2009.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of the Boulder County Adult Protection Review Team is to ensure a
broad range of
community services are available to at risk adults:
“At Risk
Adult” means an individual eighteen years of age or older who is susceptible to
mistreatment or self neglect because the individual is unable to perform or obtain services necessary for the individual’s health, safety, or welfare or
lacks sufficient understanding or capacity to make or communicate responsible decisions concerning the individual’s person or affairs.
MEMBERSHIP: Not to exceed 24 individuals, nor be fewer than 10
TERM: 3 years

AGING ADVISORY COUNCIL

PURPOSE: The Aging Advisory Council helps in the
administration and planning of Older Americans Act programs; gathers information
and ideas that could help to coordinate the delivery of senior services and
respond effectively to the needs of older adults throughout Boulder County.
MEMBERSHIP: Up to 22
TERM: 3 years; members can only serve 2
full terms as per AAC bylaws
MEETINGS: Meets every other month, 1st Friday of the month from 9
a.m. - noon; location varies. No meeting in November.

PURPOSE: Hears appeals and grants variances by
statutory authority to the Boulder County Land Use Code.
MEMBERSHIP: 5
TERM: 1-2 years for new appointees; 3 years for re-appointed members
MEETINGS: 1st Wednesday of month at 4 p.m., Land Use Conference Room or
Commissioners’ Hearing Room, Boulder

PURPOSE: To establish policy for Boulder County
Public Health (BCPH) and to oversee the broad functioning of the agency.
The Board also hires and supervises the Public Health Director.

CITIZENS CULTURAL ADVISORY
COMMITTEE

PURPOSE: To develop recommendations to the
Board of County Commissioners regarding
the yearly distribution plan within Boulder County for the County's portion of
the Metropolitan Scientific and Cultural Facilities District sales tax collected.
MEMBERSHIP: 9
TERM: Varies between one to three years, rotating

CITIZEN REVIEW PANEL

PURPOSE: To review and make recommendations concerning
grievances of alleged inappropriate conduct by the Boulder County Department of
Social Services personal in the performance of their duties.
MEMBERSHIP: 5 regular members and

COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAMS ADMINISTERING BOARD

development that provides opportunities for education, self-sufficiency and
community involvement for disenfranchised and low-income people.

PURPOSE: To screen and approve state funding for halfway
house placements in Boulder County; monitor community based alternatives to
incarceration and act in an advisory capacity on relevant criminal justice
issues.

EXTENSION ADVISORY COMMITTEE

PURPOSE: Plans and reviews Cooperative Extension
activities and assists in legislative activities that support the Extension.
MEMBERSHIP: 9 appointed by
the Commissioners, plus 2 ex-officio members. Additionally, the Extension Service
Advisory Committee appoints up to 9 members who represent program areas such as Agriculture,
Nutrition, 4-H.
TERM: 3 Years
MEETINGS: Council meets in January, April, July and October. Meetings are
held on Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m., but the dates vary. Location: Boulder County Fairgrounds Extension Office,

FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY ADVISORY BOARD

FIRE CODE REVIEW COMMITTEE

Boulder County Fire Protection Districts and makes recommendations to the Board
of County Commissioners.

FOOD AND AGRICULTURE POLICY COUNCIL

PURPOSE: To connect the community to local farmers and
agricultural food systems by influencing policy that improves our
community’s access to nutritious foods, sustains biodiversity,
encourages responsible stewardship of ecosystems, and
promotes productive and profitable agricultural development.
MEMBERSHIP: 10-13

- 3-4 Business/retail representatives
- 1 Community Food Share representative

TERM: Staggered 3-year terms

PURPOSE: Advises the Improvement District Board on issues pertinent to
the implementation of the provisions of the 1993 ballot issues regarding open
space acquisition and local transportation improvements, based on input from the
citizens of
the district.
MEMBERSHIP: 5-7 Members and 1 Ex-Officio Member
TERM: 2 years
MEETINGS: As needed; at least one public meeting per year.

PURPOSE: Decides on designations of historic structures
and sites, assists in the development of the historic survey, provides historic
preservation education and assists county staff in determining the historic
significance of structures older than 50 years for which a building permit has
been applied.
MEMBERSHIP: 7 to 9 members:
- 1 member knowledgeable in mining practices and the history of mining in
Boulder County
- 1 member knowledgeable in agricultural practices and the history of
agriculture in Boulder County
- 1 member who is an architect
- 1 member who is a member of the historic preservation
community
- 1 member who is not affiliated with the historic preservation community
- 2-4 member-at-large representatives
TERM: 3 years
MEETINGS: 1st Thursday night of each month
at 6 p.m. (unless canceled due to a lack of dockets), Commissioners' Hearing

Note: There are also occasional site visits and
subcommittee meetings that usually meet during business hours.

MOSQUITO CONTROL ADVISORY BOARD

PURPOSE: To protect the health and
well-being of the people and environment in the Boulder County Mosquito Control
District through: promoting an integrated pest management program;
collaborating with other agencies to control mosquito-borne diseases; educating
the citizens of the Boulder County Mosquito Control District to assist in
identifying and reducing mosquito breeding sites around their homes and
neighborhoods; and advising the County Commissioners and Boulder County Public
Health on mosquito control activities and needs.

NIWOT LOCAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT ADVISORY
COMMITTEE

PURPOSE: The committee serves as an independent board
to
provide the Boulder County Commissioners with recommendations for
improvements to the Niwot Local Improvement District (LID). The Committee will
prioritize expenditures for the LID sales tax revenue for projects including but
not limited to capital improvements, community events and promotion,
transportation, and transit improvements. The committee will report back to the
Boulder County Commissioners who serve as the Board of the Niwot LID.

the Board of County Commissioners on open space acquisitions and management
issues.

PLANNING COMMISSION

PURPOSE: Advises the County
Commissioners on planning matters and has statutory responsibility for
implementation of the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan.

PURPOSE: To advise the Board of County Commissioners on
major waste diversion policies and strategies. At the direction of the Board of
County Commissioners, to develop policy and action recommendations for a long
range county-wide
solid waste management plan. MEMBERSHIP: 20 Members:
- 1
appointed representative from each of the 9 municipalities in the county
- 1 appointed representative from the City and County of
Broomfield
- 1 appointed representative from unincorporated Boulder
County
- 5 at-large members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners
- 1 representative, appointed by the Commissioners, from each of the following
agencies: Eco-Cycle, Center for ReSource Conservation and CU Recycling
- 1 representative from the Boulder County Commissioners'
Office
TERM: 2 or 4 years
Note: New members will serve a 4-year term. Reappointments will serve a 2-year
or 4-year term.
Length of term will be decided by the Board of County Commissioners for the
At-Large positions. Cities and towns will decide for their municipality.
MEETINGS: 4th Wednesday of each month at 4:45 p.m., Boulder

PURPOSE: This committee serves as advisors to the
Boulder County Department of Social Services; serves as a vehicle for education
and communication with community leaders, citizens and clients; and enables
community leaders, DSS volunteers, citizens and clients to make recommendations
on improving the effectiveness of the Social Services Department.
MEMBERSHIP: 10 members, appointed by the Board of County Commissioners
