Transportation and Trails

The Boulder County Commissioners believe strongly in providing transportation
systems that minimize single-occupancy vehicle trips and maximize opportunities
to travel via healthier alternative modes: transit, carpools and vanpools,
biking, walking and taking the bus. The Board invests County dollars into trails
and transit projects, in addition to road improvements that make travel safer
and easier for cyclists and motorists alike.
The Commissioners also work closely with local cities and towns and
with surrounding communities to plan and implement transportation systems.
Boulder County's Land Use
Code and Intergovernmental Agreements play a key role
in ensuring smart transportation. One important policy, for example, states that
future development should be focused in existing urbanized areas, thus reducing
vehicle miles driven to run errands and complete other activities.
