Food Waste Composting

The following location will accept food scraps from the public:

Accepts all food scraps (including meats, bones, and oils), most any paper product (with the exception of anything plastic coated, including freezer food boxes), compostable flatware, cups, etc., and floral trimmings.
Free of charge.

Large amounts of yard waste are accepted.

Slash Drop-Off Site
Boulder County Waste Transfer/Recycling Drop-Off Center

Tree and brush slash* can be dropped at the Boulder County Waste Transfer Station and Recycling Drop-off Center at 14875 Hwy 7, Allenspark, during normal hours of operation. Due to increased mountain pine beetle activity in the mountains, the Allenspark site is temporarily accepting any size tree slash with no diameter limit. Trees are being ground on-site while a permanent tree drop-off site is located in Boulder County. The hours of operation will follow the already established hours for the Transfer Station: 

M & F: 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
W: 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Sat & Sun: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Closed T & Th and all public holidays

Accepts:
  • any size tree and brush slash with no diameter limit (temporarily accepting any size)
  • NO other organic material is accepted

Woodchips are free to anyone to pickup, subject to availability.

The yard waste drop-off is sponsored by the city of Boulder and Boulder County. It is free to city of Boulder residents; contractors bringing material from construction job sites located in the city limits of Boulder pay 50% less than the standard disposal rate; and unincorporated Boulder County residents pay 40% less than standard trash disposal rates.

  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Weeds
  • Flowers
  • Woody waste up to 6” in diameter
  • Sawdust
  • Food waste, both vegetable and meat
NOT accepted:
  • Sod
  • Woody waste over 6” in diameter
  • Animal droppings
  • Lumber
  • Construction debris
  • Dirt, rock, brick or pavers

Woodchips are free to anyone to pickup, subject to availability. Western Disposal sells the finished compost in 1.5 cubic yard bags and in bulk. If you want materials in bulk, they can load your pickup or other truck or can provide delivery service. For more information, call 303-444-2037.

Broomfield
Tree Limb Recycling Program

Hours: Sat: 8 am - 5 pm and W: 1 pm – 5pm.
Broomfield Residents only-NO contractors or non-residents, proof of residency will be required at the gate.

Accepts:
  • Only tree and shrub branches (branches more than 18 inches in diameter must be cut into 4 ft. lengths).
  •  

    NOT accepted:
    • Trash
    • Sod
    • Grass clippings
    • other landscape debris including lumber and fence materials.
    • Absolutely no wire, nails or metal of any kind are allowed due to damage to the tub grinder and risk to the operators.

    Free mulch is available year round. Bring your shovel and take as much as you need-there is no limit!

    Longmont
    Tree Limb Diversion Center

    Open 7 days a week from 8 am – 4 pm.
    Longmont residents are free. Contractors & non-residents pay a fee.

    Accepts: Tree limbs, branches, bushes, and leaves

    Just cut the limbs to manageable lengths and unload them at the designated area in the Center (no trash, no bags, no grass clippings/weeds or other debris please). The limbs are ground into a mulch which is great for summer gardening and is available to residents at the Center free of charge.

    Compost Material
    City of Louisville has great compost material that can be used in flowering beds, lawns, gardens and other landscaped areas. FREE to Louisville residents. Non-residents pay $10 per yard. Available year round at the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, 1600 Empire Road.

    Lyons
    Tree Branch Pickup

    Lyons residents only.

    The Town of Lyons will pickup tree branches from resident’s home. For more information or to schedule a pickup, call the Lyons Town Hall (303) 823-6622.
    Woodchips are free to anyone to pickup, subject to availability, at Bohn Park.

    Nederland
    Slash Drop-Off Site
    Boulder County Waste Transfer/Recycling Drop-Off Center

    286 Ridge Road, Nederland

    Slash, which includes tree limbs, branches and small-diameter trees (up to 6” in diameter) can be dropped at the Boulder County Waste Transfer Station, at 286 Ridge Road Nederland through Labor Day. No other organic materials will be accepted. In order to ensure that space is available for each load delivered, users need to call the transfer station at 303-258-7878 to make an appointment. There is no limit on quantities if space is available. Service can be used by residents and contractors.

    Accepts:
    • tree limbs (6" diameter or smaller) and brush
    • NO other organic material is accepted 

    Wood chips for use as garden mulch are available free of charge while supplies last, but must be loaded by hand.

    Hours: W: 4 pm to 7 pm; Sat: 8 am to 12noon, 1 pm to 5 pm.
    Town of Superior residents only. Residents must provide Superior Resident ID card (available at Parks, Recreation, and Open Space building at 127 East Coal Creek Dr.).

    Accepts: grass clippings, small branches (3" in diameter or less), leaves and other organic yard material.  Items that are not accepted include rock, sod and lumber.
