What's New
April 1, 2008
Allenspark Transfer Station and Nederland Transfer Station will open
for slash drop-off on May 27, 2008.
Slash can be dropped off for
free at either transfer station during regular opening hours from the
day after Memorial Day (May 27 this year) to the day after Labor day
(September 2, every year). Slash is defined as tree limbs up to six
inches in diameter and brush. No other organic materials will be
accepted. In order to ensure that space is available for each load
delivered, users need to call the facility first (Allenspark 303-747-2107, Nederland 303-258-7878) to make an appointment. There is no limit
on quantities if space is available. Service can be used by residents
and contractors.
Wood chips for use as garden mulch are available free of charge while
supplies last, but must be loaded by hand.
As a reminder, county residents can also use the County’s and the City
of Boulder’s year-round organic waste drop-off center at Western
Disposal Services’ Transfer Station, 5880 Butte Mill Road, Boulder (½
mile east of the junction of Pearl and 55th Street). This facility is
open Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. year-round and on
Saturdays 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (March to November) and 7:00 a.m. to
2:00 p.m. (November to March). The cost to use the center for residents
of unincorporated Boulder County is $29.00 per ton in 2008, 60% of the
regular cost. Quantities less than a ton are charged a pro-rated amount.
Boulder County pays 40% of the cost of this service.
The County also provides financial assistance to mountain communities
who organize chipping projects serving at least 20 property-owners.
Subject to pre-approval by the County, will reimburse 40% of the cost of
community chipping projects. Many communities, resident groups,
homeowners associations and fire districts regularly benefit from this
program that supports wildfire mitigation efforts throughout the
mountains. Applications for this year’s program are due June 6, 2008.
