This map updates the original Boulder County Mountain Addressing Atlas published in 1986. The original map was
never converted to a digital format and as a result no updated revision of the map had been undertaken until this
effort. New residences were hand annotated by the Boulder County Land Use Department on a copy of the map. The
Boulder County Sheriff's Department had that map scanned by a large format scanner and the resulting jpeg images
were geo-referenced to tif images using the ArcView Image Analyst extension. The tif images were then used to
heads-up digitize all the residences into an ArcView shapefile.
The original mountain addressing atlas, Boulder
County road coverages, Digital Orthophotographs, Boulder Mountain Fire Authority shapefiles, U.S.F.S. road coverages,
and U.S.G.S. topographic maps were used to construct a road shapefile that includes all roads (county and private)
and driveways. The accuracy of the first edition of the maps are roughly the same as the 1986 mountain address map
since most of the houses were directly digitized from it.
Updated maps with the July 2002 or later date have been
spatially corrected by the use of Orthophotographs and field checking. The index is similar to the original Map Atlas
in that it corresponds to the P.L.S.S. township grid and each primary map consists of the sections in one-quarter of
a township (with several exceptions). In other words, each primary map is three sections across and three sections
down. The numbers have been changed from the original map. To preserve map clarity, section lines and parcel lines
were not included.
The maps updated after 7/26/02 will be produced in two versions, one with the three dimensional hill shading and
one without..
