The summer picnic is a time-honored way of bringing family\nand friends together with delicious food and the great outdoors. In the 17th\ncentury, the French term \u201cpique un niche\u201d meant \u201cpick a place.\u201d It was an\nisolated spot (a nook) where family or friends could enjoy a jolly meal\ntogether away from distractions and demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boulder County Parks & Open Space has 15 parks that\ninclude picnic sites. Most offer picnic tables and restrooms at the trailhead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some parks also have group picnic sites that you can reserve for a small fee. The shelters are available on a first come, first serve basis if there is no secured reservation.
